Best Resources for PLAB/UKMLA

Best Plab/ukmla resources

PLAB will be officially replaced by UKMLA in 2024

What is UKMLA ?

It's the United Kingdom Medical Licensing Assessment. It will be a requirement for both UK graduates and for international graduates, unlike the PLAB exams. There will be two parts.

  • The Applied Knowledge Test (AKT). This test will be the same for all UK students and also for IMGs. The GMC will decide the pass standard, and the exam will be held four times a year. UK medical students will face the exam in their schools, while IMGs will be able to take it at select locations around the world. It will be a computer-based test for all candidates.

  • The Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA). This will be similar to PLAB 2 and GMC will take it at their Clinical Assessment Center in Manchester.

okay, now lets discuss the best resources for the exam.

# 1 1700 questions by Dr. Khalid Saifullah

This is a QBank from the past PLAB 1 tests. This group of questions from 1700 has been studied a lot by Plabbers, and some of them have organized the questions according to their own needs, with their own explanations.

Dr. Khalid Saifullah has compiled, arranged, and explained the questions, and later others have worked on his initiative.

Can I pass ONLY by reading these 1700 questions with explanations?

Does GMC exactly repeat these questions?

The answer is sometimes yes. Sometimes no, well, don't confuse, i will explain.

They don’t repeat exactly, but the concepts of the questions stay similar to a great degree. That’s why the best way to solve these questions is never to memorize which one is the answer right away. Rather, to understand why the other four are not correct. You should look to employ as many question banks as you can find, and also implement a strict study plan to make sure you can review everything.

#2 Most important Books for PLAB 1

The best books so far are Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine and Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties

These 2 books are considered as top most books so far; solve the mcqs and read the books as a reference. Use free materials like Patient Info or NICE guidelines if you still have doubts

GMC has also provided a Blueprint so that you can have a general understanding of what topics to expect in the exam. The blueprint will tell you what you can expect to be covered by the questions in part 1, but it won’t tell you what questions or scenarios you will face on the day you take the tests.

#3 Facebook PLAB Group

Facebook is going to be your best friend in your preparation for PLAB. If you do not understand any question, post it on Facebook and others will help you. Also try to answer other people’s questions when you’re free.

You’ll learn by commenting on other people’s questions. By doing this, you’ll also form a group with others. This group will help you the most during your preparation for PLAB 1; they will help you with your visa application, PLAB 2, GMC registration and everything else from then on.

#4 Samson Notes

Samson notes indeed play an important role in your studies for PLAB. Few of mine seniors who tried PLAB are recommending these notes, and they also recommend that one should go for Samson Center. Samson PLAB Academy also covers your PLAB clinical examination. They are one of the best one to start with.

To download the notes, just google it, you will find many download links.

Okay, let’s end the topic here, soon. I will create a new blog with detailed resources for individual subjects
